Alta Loma Teacher’s Online Lessons Bring Parents to Tears

Grace Rhee

When South San Francisco Unified School District (SSFUSD) canceled all in-person classes effective March 16 to help prevent spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Alta Loma Middle seventh-grade math teacher Grace Rhee looked for ways to keep her students engaged.

She took to YouTube to create music videos set to popular Disney songs to help students find their assignments and cope with the new distance learning requirements.

Parents such as Vanessa Sanchez said Miss Rhee’s efforts “brought tears and smiles” to her face.

“She [Miss Rhee] has been informative and supportive and has structured her lessons and classwork in an organized and easy to follow format for her students,” said Sanchez. “It has made the process smoother, and I truly appreciate her efforts.”

COVID-19 may have permanently changed the way schools operate, so teachers like Miss Rhee will need to continue to find creative ways to reach students.
